Reasons to move
A resourceful location with a good water supply and shelter from the elements offers the opportunity to collect and contain clean water, build up stocks of food, re-assess strategies, fix things and gather energy for the next move.
How often and how far you move each time will be dependent on factors:
- How much available water can be found in nearby your present camp -running out will force movement.
- How much food can be foraged nearby, this will keep you looking further afield as daily gathering diminishes the supply.
- How much fuel – this will undoubtedly exhaust unless you are in forest.
- Whether there is something that needs to be avoided, any danger or threat of some sort.
Sooner or later we will need to leave your present camp to replenish and move on to a new location.
Leaving camp can either be a time to cover your tracks or leave signs that you have been there for rescue purposes.
