Clothing
This is a fairly common sense issue; however for arctic and polar conditions more consideration is needed.
Clothing made from 100% hemp is very strong.
Hemp also has natural anti mold and fungal properties, making it excellent for socks (of which two pairs makes a lot of sense.)
Hemp/ cotton blends are also good, but the cotton is weaker.
There are a lot of specialized materials on the market used in making adventure gear for all climates, and the military make use of these for their clothing and equipment
A rough guide-line of useful survival clothing
- A good pair strong but soft walking boots is essential; wear them in gradually on a few walks first to prevent blistering feet.
- A Waterproof poncho (as an item of your grab bag) this also seconds as a waterproof shelter.
- Belt: Useful not only to keep your trousers up as you lose weight from living only on wild foraged food! But also to attach kit to, or as emergency strapping.
- Warm jacket.
- Hooded sweater or’ hoodie’.
- Hat.
- Gloves: For protection rather than warmth will serve both purposes.
