The ONTOS (from the Greek language “the thing”) is a pure field knife, solid and heavy but still compact and unobtrusive. A portion of the upper blade is serrated in order to always have a sharp edge ready to be used if the main blade becomes dulled.

In an emergency situating, when a person might leave behind their primary heavy equipment, thanks to its M.O.L.L.E. compatible nylon side sheath this bit of primary kit wont be left behind.

A survival kit is stored in a pocket which is fastened to the front of the nylon sheath by a M.O.L.L.E. system, making the Ontos a true, all round survival tool.

A useful fluorescent stick (lasting for 12 hours) and a good quality diamond sharpener are also included.

Blade steel as is with the whole Extrema Ratio Range is the fantastic N690Co hardened to HRC58 steel for incredible strength and a super sharp and long lasting edge. This steel is produced in Austria and is often used for scalpel production in the medical industry.

Blades are produced using only N690, the steel is martensitic enriched with chrome, vanadium, molibdene and cobalt, using the finest homogeneity it is transformed into plate for a crossed lamination/rolling.

Extrema Ratio have nearly ten years experience using this steel and produce a fine survival knife steel from it. The steel is cut by high power laser, vacuum thermo treatment and is finally given a special sand blasting.

Protected through burnishing and carbonitruration creating a strong resitance to corrosion which will satisfy even the most demanding military expectations.

The handle is made from Forprene and provides a tough and durable and extremely sure gripped handle material. There is little chance of loosing your grip on this handle and the material is very comfortable and comes in black or desert tan.

The handle is asymmetric but straight, which allows for a fast and natural shift from "saber" to "reverse" grip while leaving the end of the tang free as a rope guide or for use as a blunt instrument.

It is suitable for hands of all dimensions, male or female, and for use with thermal gloves. It is made from a single piece and is easy to dismantle, allowing for easy maintenance.

While lacking the length and front end weight to be much use as a chopping instrument it can still be used in this way for the smaller chopping jobs. The handle length on this knife allows for a great chopping action, and useful for most applications.
